Registration is required.

Are you struggling with time management? Do you find it difficult to focus on schoolwork? Leddy Library is here to help!

The Analogue-Pomodoro Study Session incorporates non-digital tools and a time management technique to help you study.

This study session is designed with ADHD-learners in mind, but is open to everyone!

Here’s what you’ll find at the session:

  • A wide space with various types of desks, couches and beanbag chairs (for comfort and ample physical movement)
  • Natural lighting (no bright lights)
  • Ear plugs
  • Sensory kits and colouring sheets (for fidgeting or stimming)
  • Paper, pens, calculators and other analogue tools
  • Guided time management using the Pomodoro Technique
  • Basic reference help from library staff members

What does “analogue” mean in this context?

Analogue, in this session, refers to using hands-on, tangible tools that minimize the use of digital tools, to perform tasks. To help you and your fellow students focus, we will ask you to:

  • Bring notebooks, binders, pens, highlighters and physical books or printed readings
  • Turn off WIFI connection on your laptop and notifications on your phone
  • Download your online readings beforehand, so that you can view the readings on your device without accessing the internet
  • Download songs and make playlists on your device ahead of time, to decrease the amount of times you physically pick up your phone

The library also provides notepads, pens, pencils, highlighters, calculators and other tools, to help you to hand-write study notes or rough drafts of assignments. For quick online searches, there will be 1-2 laptops with WIFI connection provided at the front of the room.

What does “Pomodoro” mean in this context?

Pomodoro refers to the Pomodoro Technique, a time management method in which you work for 25 minutes and rest for 5 minutes. Library staff members will set timers and announce each work and rest period. The session will go like this:

10:30am: Getting settled in - choose one task you would like to work on for this session and prepare any of the materials you need.

11:00am: Work - begin the first part of your task. For example, this could be starting a rough draft of your essay, taking notes of key terms and concepts from your lessons, or reading your readings!

11:25am: Rest - stretch your legs, talk to your peers, colour, relax.

11:55am: Rest

12:00pm: Work
